Who can become a contributor?

Last updated: 3 months ago

Anyone with a Cathopic account can upload Catholic content and become a contributor. There is no separate application process - you simply create an account, upload quality content, and automatically become a contributor once your first submission is approved.

The simple truth: Everyone starts the same way

Cathopic does not have a formal "contributor application" or selection process. Instead:

  • Step 1: Create a free account at sign up

  • Step 2: Upload your Catholic content through Creator → Upload

  • Step 3: Wait for moderation review

  • Step 4: When approved, you automatically become an official contributor

That's it. No forms, no waiting for approval to upload, no selection committee. Just create, upload, and let your work speak for itself.

What makes a successful contributor

While anyone can upload, successful contributors share certain qualities:

Technical skill:

  • Photographers with strong composition, lighting, and technical execution

  • Videographers who can capture stable, well-edited footage

  • Graphic designers comfortable with professional design software

  • Digital artists creating original Catholic-themed work

Catholic knowledge:

  • Understanding of liturgical practices and accuracy

  • Respect for sacred subjects and reverent treatment

  • Familiarity with Catholic theology, devotions, and traditions

  • Ability to create content that serves actual Catholic ministry needs

Professional approach:

  • Commitment to quality over quantity

  • Patience with the review process

  • Willingness to learn from feedback and rejection

  • Understanding of metadata and searchability

  • Consistent content creation over time

Content contributors we welcome

Photographers:
Capturing authentic Catholic life, liturgy, architecture, devotions, and sacred moments. From parishes to cathedrals, from Mass to pilgrimage, your lens documents the living Church.

Videographers:
Creating video clips of Catholic subjects - liturgical celebrations, church interiors, devotional practices, interviews, documentaries. Short clips (10-30 seconds) work best for most users.

Graphic designers:
Designing Catholic-themed graphics, icons, infographics, social media templates, bulletin covers, presentation backgrounds. Vector formats (SVG, AI, EPS) preferred for flexibility.

Digital artists:
Creating original Catholic artwork, illustrations, icons, religious art in contemporary styles. Must be genuinely original work, not reproductions of others' art.

What you do NOT need

Common misconceptions about becoming a contributor:

  • ❌ You do not need professional credentials or a photography degree

  • ❌ You do not need to submit a portfolio for review before uploading

  • ❌ You do not need to be Catholic (though understanding the faith helps enormously)

  • ❌ You do not need expensive professional equipment

  • ❌ You do not need thousands of social media followers

  • ❌ You do not need approval before you can start uploading

  • ❌ You do not pay any fees to join or upload

Age and legal requirements

To become a contributor, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Have legal right to upload and license the content you submit

  • Own all copyrights or have explicit permission to upload

  • Agree to Cathopic's terms of service and contributor agreement

  • Be able to receive PayPal payments (for earnings)

Geographic availability

Cathopic accepts contributors worldwide. Contributors from every continent have uploaded content. The only requirement is a valid PayPal account to receive earnings, which limits availability to countries where PayPal operates.

Starting small is fine

You do not need a massive library to begin:

  • Many successful contributors started with just 5-10 images

  • Start with your best work, even if that's just a handful

  • Build your library gradually over time

  • Focus on quality, not rushing to upload hundreds of mediocre images

When you become "officially" a contributor

The moment your first content is approved by moderation, you officially become a Cathopic contributor:

  • Your account is flagged as a "contributor" in the system

  • You receive a welcome email

  • Your content goes live and can be downloaded

  • You start earning from premium downloads

  • You gain access to contributor analytics and revenue dashboards

This happens automatically - no action needed from you beyond uploading quality content that passes review.

Content types accepted

Photos: JPG format, minimum 4MB file size, high resolution suitable for professional use, sharp focus, proper exposure

Videos: MP4 or MOV format, minimum 20MB file size, HD (1920x1080) or 4K resolution, stable footage, clear audio if applicable, 10-60 seconds ideal length

Graphics: SVG, PSD, AI, or EPS format, vector preferred for scalability, original designs only, appropriate for Catholic ministry use

The democratic approach

Cathopic's open model means the quality bar is maintained through the review process, not through artificial barriers to entry. Anyone can try, and those who consistently produce quality Catholic content succeed.

This democratizes Catholic content creation - whether you're a seminary student with a smartphone or a professional photographer with cathedral access, your work can serve the global Church.
