I cannot find a downloaded image

Last updated: 3 months ago

If you cannot find an image you downloaded, here is how to locate it.

Check your default downloads folder

Most browsers save downloads to a default location:

Windows:

  • Usually: C:\Users\YourUsername\Downloads

  • Check your File Explorer Downloads folder

Mac:

  • Usually: /Users/YourUsername/Downloads

  • Check your Finder Downloads folder

  • Look in the Dock for the Downloads stack

Linux:

  • Usually: ~/Downloads or /home/YourUsername/Downloads

Check your browser downloads

View recent downloads in your browser:

Chrome:

  • Press Ctrl+J (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+J (Mac)

  • Or go to Settings → Downloads

  • Click "Show in folder" next to the file

Firefox:

  • Press Ctrl+Shift+Y (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+Y (Mac)

  • Or go to Menu → Library → Downloads

  • Right-click the file and select "Open Containing Folder"

Safari:

  • Click the downloads button in the toolbar

  • Click the magnifying glass next to the file

  • Or check View → Show Downloads

Search your computer

Use your system search to find the file:

  • Search for "cathopic" (many of our files include this in the name)

  • Search by file type (.jpg, .jpeg, .mp4, .svg)

  • Sort by date modified to find recent downloads

  • Check if the file was moved to a different folder

Check your download history on Cathopic

To see what you have downloaded:

  1. Go to Settings → Downloads History

  2. Review your download history

  3. Find the resource you are looking for

  4. Download it again if needed (does not count against your limit)

The download may have failed

If you clicked download but the file is nowhere:

  • The download may have been interrupted

  • Your browser may have blocked the download

  • Check your browser pop-up blocker

  • Try downloading again from your downloads history

Check browser download settings

Your download location may have been changed:

  1. Open your browser settings

  2. Search for "Downloads" in settings

  3. Check the download location path

  4. Change it back to the default if needed

Automatic file organization

Some systems automatically organize downloads:

  • Check your Pictures folder for images

  • Check your Videos folder for video files

  • Some antivirus software moves downloads to quarantine if flagged

  • Cloud storage apps (OneDrive, Google Drive) may sync downloads automatically

Download again

If you cannot find the file anywhere:

  1. Go to Settings → Downloads History

  2. Find the resource

  3. Click to download it again

  4. Watch where your browser saves it

  5. Re-downloads do not count against your monthly limit

Organize your downloads

To avoid losing files in the future:

  • Create a dedicated folder for Cathopic downloads

  • Rename files with descriptive names after downloading

  • Move important files to project-specific folders

  • Keep your downloads folder organized
